H.M. Konungens tal vid Business Forum under statsbesöket i Mexiko

Mexico City, Mexiko

(Det talade ordet gäller)

Ministers,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It is a great honor for me to have the opportunity to talk about the excellent trade relations between our countries at this opening of the Mexico-Sweden Business Forum.

We build upon a trading tradition that dates back a long time. The first Swedish companies in Mexico established operations here more than 100 years ago! Ericsson is celebrating its 120th anniversary in Mexico this year, and SKF started its operations in the country in 1920.

Today Mexico is Sweden’s most important export market in Latin America, right after Brazil. More than 170 Swedish companies and companies with ties to Sweden are represented in the country.

There are many areas where we can expand our trade. The transport sector for example offers good opportunities for increased cooperation. Electrification of vehicles and secure and accessible public transport are crucial in reducing global emissions. Sweden and Mexico are making important contributions towards this goal.

Moreover, Swedish businesses operate within several areas and sectors, from digitalization and the health sector, to manufacturing and the mining industry. Notably, the mining industry is embracing sustainable practices, aiming not just for economic benefits but also ensuring environmentally responsible operations. We look forward to continued cooperation on the green transition, sustainable development, innovation, technology, and science.

Furthermore, Mexico’s economic importance has increased at a time of changing global supply chains. The country’s strategically important position is of interest to our Swedish businesses, as they are looking to establish and expand their operations in Mexico.

Ladies and gentlemen,

Swedish companies are dedicated partners to Mexico and want to invest in the country’s green and digital transformation. I am confident that our collaboration will address tomorrow's challenges and strengthen our trade relations even further.

Together, we can build a future that is both environmentally conscious and economically prosperous.

Thank you!
