The King attends WWF's annual meeting at Häringe and Hansviken

On 15 June, The King attended WWF's annual meeting at Häringe Castle, followed by an excursion to Hansviken, a shallow bay on the Baltic Sea.

In connection with WWF's annual meeting, an excursion to Hansviken Bay was arranged with the Archipelago Foundation. Hansviken Bay is home to an unusually large number of predatory fish, but these have long been threatened by turbidity and eutrophication. WWF and the Archipelago Foundation have therefore worked to restore a coastal meadow for grazing and to create a small wetland that will act as a nutrient trap and clean the nutrient-rich water from the fields at Häringe. The aim is to preserve and strengthen the natural values of Häringe Nature Reserve and Hansviken Bay.

Annual meeting and send-off

The annual meeting was held at Häringe Castle. The meeting concluded with a send-off to thank The King for his service as Honorary Chairman of the WWF's Board of Trustees. The King gave a speech, in which he said:

It has been a great privilege to follow the work of WWF for more than half a century. […] I would like to convey my sincere thanks to the Board of Trustees for all this.

“The time has now come for me to hand over to a new chair. However, I look forward to continuing to follow WWF's work in the future.”
